First Post for OSV Hockey

Well, here goes. Hopefully, the first of many posts, articles and links to articles to stimulate readers to examine the game of hockey thru the eyes of a coach, player or spectator with the goal of seeing the game with greater clarity and understanding. I've always had the attitude that to ever understand a concept, a subject, a set of ideas, the best way to approach this is to break it down to it's simplest terms and attempt to get to the essential WHY it functions to achieve the desired results. Once you understand the why's of any subject or matter the opportunity to make adjustments, additions or improvements is so much simpler and that is the ultimate goal of this site.

Hockey is a sport with many moving parts and changing conditions. As much as there are organizational needs to have structure to what a team tries to do collectively, there is also a huge need for players and coaches to be able to adapt on the fly thru creativity. For many, this creativity is the true beauty of the sport and the balance between creativity and structure is often the biggest hurdle for coaches and players to come to grips with. Understanding of the why questions gives both the coach and player a much greater chance of selecting appropriate and effective solutions. For the spectator or hockey fan, gaining insight on how the game is organized, how the tactics are structured and managed should only increase the appreciation of the challenges the participants face each and every game.

By examining the sport with the goal of gaining understanding to the numerous why questions, anyone searching for insights for improvement will have a clearer or simpler path to achieving those goals. The title of this blog is "one simple vision hockey "and this will be the guiding principal behind most of what we will attempt to examine. Rather than accepting any one source as the lone authority for insights, the model here, will be to post topics in a questioning format. By reviewing the different choices coaches or players make or options they might have selected we should be able to widen the options and better understand consequences of those options. Please jump in the discussions as differing opinions and insights will be the surest path to self discovery.

"Order and simplification are the first steps toward the mastery of a subject." Thomas Mann
